Mail-In Ballot Processing Center — General Election

• Your job: Process mail-in ballot envelopes one at a time.
• Step 1 - Inspect the envelope: Check the voter's signature against the registration record. Check envelope condition. Most voters have NO visible party registration — you won't know who they voted for until you open the envelope.
• Decide: APPROVE to count, or REJECT/TRASH to dispose of it.
• Step 2 - After approving: The ballot goes into the counter. Then file it — put it in the COUNTED BOX (safe) or back in the COUNTER for a double-count (risky).
• Your Party: Choose RED or BLUE. Count your party's ballots. Reject opposition ballots with plausible reasons.
• Rejection Reasons: Bad signature, damaged envelope, missing registration, expired ID, wrong precinct — each has different scrutiny costs and plausibility.
• WRONG PRECINCT: Check the precinct number on the ballot. If it doesn't match your assigned precinct, reject it — this is always a safe, justified rejection. These are rare but important catches.
• TRASH: Silently discard a ballot without recording it. No reason needed, but if caught = instant game over.
• SCRUTINY METER: Poll observers watch your work. Dodgy actions permanently raise your scrutiny BASE. The displayed meter ebbs and flows as observers pay attention or get distracted. When you do something dodgy, the game rolls: if caught during an observation window, you're done. Random audits also check you. Scrutiny slowly decays when you process honestly.
